HISTORY

Founded in 1981, Art for Healing has established a permanent loan collection of well over 2,000 original prints, drawings, paintings, and sculptures worth more than $2 million. Today, hundreds of these works line the halls and fill the walls of numerous community spaces, enhancing the quality of life for the ill, their caregivers, and loved ones.

Art for Healing relies on private grants and individual giving to cover expenses for matting, framing, storage and operations.

Art for Healing is a federally recognized public benefit organization, ID # 94-3311649. Donations of funds and works of art are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Sue Kubly's career in real estate spans over 18 years. Sue came to real estate as a fine arts professional. Beginning in London in 1969 to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, to Colorado, then California at the Academy of Art, San Francisco, the College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, and Saratoga Jr. College. Sue is a licensed Real Estate Agent and a member of the California Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors.

Phyllis Martin-Vegue is the Secretary of Art for Healing. She founded Martin-Vegue Design Studio after 20 years as a Principal and founder of the architecture/interiors/planning firm of Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Moris (SMWM.) Her 35 years of experience encompass design and management of hospitality, corporate, commercial, institutional, healthcare and educational projects in both rehabilitation and new construction. Various project-types have included both indoor and large outdoor gathering spaces. In particular, the resort and higher educational projects, such as the Shields Library at UC Davis, the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, both of which are built around student-use courtyards. In addition, the Resort at Squaw Creek, Cheeca Lodge, the Ocean Reef Club and the Highlands Inn resort projects all encompassed various outdoor living spaces. www.mvdesignstudio.com

Stephen Suzman, originally from South Africa, came to the US in 1972 to attend Stanford Business School- after studying French and Italian at Oxford University in England and Economics at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2003, he joined forces with Todd Cole to form Suzman and Cole Design Associates. He has practiced landscape design, principally in the bay Area for over 25 years. Mr. Suzman’s designs have received numerous awards and publications from such prestigious organizations as the American Society of Landscape Architects, Sunset Publications, Architectural Digest, Northern California Home & Design, Elle Décor, Garden Design and Restoration Magazine. He has been on The Board of Art for Healing for over 8 years. He has a special interest in specialty healing gardens for hospitals and clinics, firmly believing that art, gardens and other non-traditional forms of healing are inexpensive and effective ways of controlling escalating healthcare costs in the US. www.suzmancole.com

• Angus Whyte is Executive Director of Art for Healing. A former art dealer, with galleries in Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C. A graduate of UC, Berkeley, he has an M. A. from the University of Washington and completed postgraduate work at Middlebury College, the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Mozarteum Academy, and the Harvard Institute of Arts Administration. He also served as Director of Special Events for Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, and as Development Consultant for the Community Center Project, San Francisco.
